Back from that undiscover'd country from whose bourne no traveller returns.
In a moment of philosophical pondering on years past on Livejournal, I fondly remembered the days when this community (by far one of my favourites) used to be active. I came here to realise that it's been FOUR YEARS since someone last posted on here.

THIS WILL NOT DO. I refuse to let this community fall into oblivion like so many other good LJ communities (and LJ as a whole, for that matter), so here I am unearthing it with a random "what's on" post. Especially because I think this year is an intriguing season.

So, let's begin. Earlier this year my love for the Bard and languages was completely satisfied by the Globe to Globe festival. I even volunteered as an ambassador for Julius Caesar in Italian, which really was just an excuse to stun my unlucky interlocutor with overenthusiastic and incoherent babbling on the Globe. Sadly, I only managed to see three productions out of the festival - Julius Caesar in Italian as mentioned, Richard II in Palestinian Arabic and The Merchant in Venice in Hebrew. Leaving Julius Caesar out (Italian it's my first language), I was totally shocked at how easy it got to follow and appreciate the performance after a while, even though I couldn't speak any of those languages at all. And let me say, Richard II was probably the best production of the play I've EVER seen, I was almost in tears. As for the 'regular' season, I have tickets for Richard III and Twelth Night, and I'll soon book tickets for Henry V.

Did anyone manage to go to any Globe to Globe production, or to watch it from overseas? Any show from the rest of the season in the diary? Thoughts? Criticism? Random Shakespearean squee?

yay :D

sadly, I'll probably not be able to see any show this year. But I really need the Globe to film Twelfth Night and even more so Richard III because of Mark Rylance. I'm heartbroken that I can't see him in Richard III. When you go, pretend I'm there with you, will you? :)

Oh no, I can't believe you won't make it to any this year! I'm sure you'll be with me in spirit ;)
